Welcome to Art at ISU
Jill Pribyl, BFA, CMA (Certified Laban Movement Analyst), MA
My name is Jill Pribyl and I am the teacher for Visual Art from Kinder to Grade 5 and Dance and Drama in grades 4 and 5. I came to Uganda as a Fulbright Scholar at Makerere University where I currently teach several courses. This is my eighth year of teaching at ISU.
II have been teaching for over 20 years and was an Associate Professor of Dance at Eastern New Mexico University before coming to Uganda. I have conducted professional development workshops in the arts for teachers in higher education and both primary and secondary schools in Egypt, Brazil, South Africa, Zimbabwe and throughout the USA. Most recently, I have written creative arts curriculum for In-Movement/Art for Social Change here in Kampala. I have taught children from ages 3 to 18, as well as adults, and believe that the arts can foster creative, divergent thinking and problem solving skills. I am committed to fostering growth, independence and the love of art in the children of ISU.
Since I came to ISU I have been committed to enhancing the curriculum in Visual Art. In the last two years I have also been able to develop dance and drama in grades 4 and 5. The units I teach often link directly with the classroom UOI. This approach gives students the opportunity explore topics and concepts through visual art, dance and drama with an artistic lens.
Each Grade page will give you a brief overview of each unit including pictures and films of the children at work. These pages are password protected.
I hope you enjoy looking at the amazing work done by the students of ISU.
