Single Subjects in the Primary Years Programme
“Within the PYP it is believed that student learning is best done when it is authentic – relevant to the ‘real’ world and transdisciplinary – where learning is not confined to the boundaries of traditional subject areas but it is supported and enriched by them.”

How do the Singles Subjects Support the Students' Learning?
Where our units are not linked to the Homerooms we have been developing our own Central Ideas and Lines of Inquiry – some that we can revisit over the years of Junior School

How do the Singles Subjects Support the Students' Learning?
- With authentic links to the Unit of Inquiry (UOI)
- With links to the concepts being taught through the UOI.
- With possible links to content
- We have an ongoing dialogue with the Homeroom teachers and support not only the children as individuals but also the learning in the classroom.
Where our units are not linked to the Homerooms we have been developing our own Central Ideas and Lines of Inquiry – some that we can revisit over the years of Junior School
We have also highlighted our own, subject specific, 'key' and related concepts.
On the home page for each Single Subject you will find an introduction to the lead teacher of that subject and an overview. Each subject page is broken into sub-pages that will give you a brief overview of the units of inquiry for that subject and some pictures. To protect the privacy of the children these pages are password protected.
