Additional Languages at ISU
Lucy Elliott, Teacher of Additional Languages
Welcome to the Junior School Additional Languages pages.
My name is Lucy Elliott and I am the teacher for French in Kinder to Grade 5 and Spanish in Grade 5. I am also the instructional Coordinator for the Single Subject Teachers. This is my sixth year at ISU and I love it here! I work with Ms Christine Sharita who is a Teaching Assistant and teaches in EC and Kinder.
I have been a teacher for over 20 years now and I have worked in the UK, Lebanon, the UAE and here in Uganda. I hold a degree in Modern Languages and Politics and a Post Graduate Certification in Education. I have taught children from ages three to eighteen in the British, Lebanese, French and IB education systems. I have also taught a variety of subjects from French and Spanish to Mathematics with some High School English and Middle School Humanities thrown in! Here though, I have returned to my first love of language teaching. I love working in the Primary Years Programme and am also trained as a workshop leader and site visitor for the PYP.
Since I came to ISU I have been committed to improving the curriculum, learning and teaching in Additional Language. I have looked at the vertical articulation of the curriculum to try and ensure that all areas of language are covered. I have worked at deepening transdisciplinary links with homerooms, developing conceptual understandings and working on my own subject Central Ideas and concepts. Our emphasis is on communication whilst learning the skills to aquire and understand some of the structures of the language.
Each Grade page will give you a brief overview of each unit and some pictures and films of the children at work. These pages are password protected.
I hope you enjoy these pages,
Lucy Elliott
